“But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the LORD alone.”

Jonah 2:9, NLT

Songs of Praise

Family and Friends, in Jonah 2, after the prophet Jonah disobeyed God’s call to go preach to the city of Nineveh, he ended up in the belly of a great fish. It was slimy, dark, smelly, depressing, and it was his own fault.

He began to pray, and for eight verses all he did was complain to God about how bad his life was. But when he realized that complaining doesn’t get God’s attention, that God works where there’s faith, he switched over to songs of praise and thanksgiving. In the midst of his problems, when it seemed hopeless, God turned it around and gave Jonah another chance.

When you’re stuck in a situation where you could be worried and discouraged, do as Jonah did.

You can’t wait for it to change and then you’re going to thank God; you have to thank Him in advance. That’s your faith being released.

If you keep worrying through your prayers, begging God to change things, that can keep you from your purpose.

Give God praise and thank Him in the midst of the challenge for the great things He’s about to do.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when I feel stuck, especially when I’ve brought trouble upon myself, You cover me with mercy and are my salvation. Thank You that I can give You praise and thanks in the midst of problems. I believe You see my faith and are the One who rescues me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
